years old branded B. All of said property warranted free of encumbrances, and
against any adverse claim; to have and to hold the same unto the said Mims and

on or before November 1st 1888, such sum as I may be due to them as aforesaid

personally came before the undersigned, a Notary Public within and for the county
of Little River and state of Arkansas James Wright citizens of Little River County
whom I certify to be creditable persons and worthy of confidence, who, being
duly sworn, state that they are each, personally, well acquainted with applicant
L. D. Belt and have known him 40 years, respectively. That he was a Confederate
soldier, as I was informed by my brother. Belonging to Company A Regiment of
Thomas Wright who belonged to same company and Regiment that applicant served
in. That he is now and has been for the past twelve months a bonafide resident
of Arkansas. That he is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of general debility
and old age and that such incapacity ( or all property now owned by him and his
wife, together, is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and
wearing apparel). That neither he nor his wife is in receipt of any income, annuity,
pension or wages for any services, or the emoluments of an office, in excess

Shackelford a duly registered and practicing physician in Little River County,
Arkansas, do hereby
certify that I am personally well acquainted with L. D.
Belt of Foreman Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pension under the statutes
of Arkansas. That at his request I have made an examination of his physical condition
and find: him very feeble and in general bad health. Physical condition and to
what cause is his incapacity for manual labor attributable. His physical condition
renders him unable to perform any kind of manual labor and is attributable to
extreme old age and general disability, being eighty years of age....and that
said disability is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in

1906 July 30 Little River County, Arkansas - We, the undersigned, sitting as
a Pension Board for L. D. Belt for pension, under Act of the General Assembly
of the state of Arkansas, as approved March 11, 1901, and the proof in support
of same, and find that said applicant is a wounded Confederate soldier, is in
indigent circumstances, and wholly or partially incapacitated for manual labor,
and that his claim is just, and that he should be allowed $100.00 pension. J.

1906 September 15 Little River County, Arkansas Deed Book, page 92 - Warranty
Deed with relinquishment of dower - Know all men by these presents: That I, Caroline
Belt of the city of Foreman county of Little River in the state of Arkansas,
for and in consideration of the sum of one dollars, to me in hand paid by J.J.
Taaffe the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained and
sold, and by these presents grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said J.J.
Taaffe and unto his heirs and assigns forever, the following described real estate
situated in the county of Little River and state of Arkansas, to wit: the South
East quarter of the North East quarter, of the South West quarter of Section
twenty five (25), Township twelve (12) South, Range thirty two (32) West, containing
ten acres more or less, with all the privileges, appurtenance and improvements
thereupon situate, appertaining and thereunto belonging. To have and to hold
the same unto the said J.J. Taaffe his heirs and assigns forever. And I the said
Caroline Belt for myself and my heirs, executors and administrators do covenant
with the said J.J. Taaffe his heirs and assigns, that I am lawfully seized in
fee simple of the
afore
granted premises; that they are free from all
incumbencies;
that I have good right to sell and convey the same as herein done; that I will
and my heirs, executors and administrators shall forever warrant and defend the
same to the quiet enjoyment of said J.J. Taaffe his heirs and assigns against
all lawful claims and demands of all persons. In testimony whereof, we hereunto

State of Arkansas county of Little River ss: On this 15th day of September 1906,
before me Carl Schuman a Notary Public within and for the county of Little River

Belt to me personally well known as the person whose name appear upon the within
and foregoing deed of conveyance as the party grantor and stated that she had
executed the same for the consideration and purpose therein mentioned and

1907 June 21 - Lorenza Dooley Belt died of angina pectoris in Little River County,
Arkansas.
Caroline MEARS and Lorenzo Dooley BELT had the following children:

July 9 - James William Belt was shot in a quarrel over a girl; he was buried
in Marvin Cemetery, Little River County, Arkansas.
