The Third Louisiana Regiment served with Major General Earl Van Dorn's, Army of the
West, in Colonel Louis Hebert's Brigade, under Brigadier General Benjamin McCulloch's
Division, they fought with distinction at the battles of "Oak Hill" Wilson's Creek) and and
"Elk Horn" (Pea Ridge). The 3rd Regiment left after the Battle of Pea Ridge. They were
transferred east to Corinth, Mississippi in April 1862. They arrived in Corinth on April 15,
1862, and fought in the Battles of Iuka and Corinth. Next they fought at the Siege of
Vicksburg.

Thomas was reduced to ranks for straggling on 21 December 1862.

Thomas was wounded on 21 May 1863 with Herbert's Brigade at the siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Hebert's Brigade was ordered to surrender at Vicksburg, Mississippi on 4 July 1863. Thomas was paroled on 8 July 1863 at
Vicksburg, Mississippi according to the terms of capitulation entered into by the Commanding Generals of the United States
and Confederate Forces, 4 July 1863.

As paroled prisoners of war, the Louisiana Infantry were bivouacked with the 2nd Texas Infantry at Enterprise, Mississippi
from July through December 20, 1863, at which time they were exchanged. When the Regiment reorganized after December
30, 1863, Thomas was assigned 1st Corporal of Company "H" 22nd Regiment, Louisiana Infantry, which served East of the
Mississippi. They fought in numerous battles in Alabama and Flordia. At the formal surrender in 1865 Thomas was a 4th
Sergeant of Company "H", 22nd Regiment, Louisiana Infantry.

Thomas filed a Soldiers Application for Pension on 7 October 1903. He states he was serving with Col. Russell and Lt. Holt
at date of discharge or parole. When asked to give a name or two of your comrades he wrote, "One man named Bellow and
Tabor, can't remember their given names. The fact is it has been so long and my mind is so feeble from old age that those
days of the war seems like a dream."

The State of Louisiana Office of Board of Pension Commissioners requested from The Chief of the Record and Pension
Office, War Department, Washington, DC the records relative to Thomas Williams. They replied, "The records show that
Thomas Williams, private, Company "C", 3rd Louisiana Infantry, C. S. A., was enrolled May 17, 1861. He is reported on the
company roll for January and February, 1863, last on which borne, a Corporal, present. He was captured at Vicksburg,
Mississippi, July 4, 1863 and paroled at same place July 8, 1863."

After Thomas died his widow Frances Adaline Williams applied for a widows pension on 3 January 1908.
