Chester was a large man, standing 6' 2", large dark brown eyes and black hair. He always looked younger than his age and only started to grey slightly at the temples at the time of his death. His main occupation was in construction as superintendent, about 15 years working for FHA as an inspector and finally starting his own construction company. As a young man he was a salesman, selling vacuum cleaners door to door (a short lived job) and selling automobiles for about two years.
Chester served in the army with the 273rd F.A. BN during WWII. His induction was February 19, 1943. He fought in France and Germany and earned two Bronze Service Stars, ETO Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and Purple Heart. He arrived in France August 28, 1944 and entered combat near Nancy, France September 5, 1944 and moving on from France to Germany, entering Luxembourg December 22, 1944. His first daughter was born just prior to his entering France. Chester received a medical discharge February 16, 1946 due to shrapnel injury to his spine causing his right hand and arm to loose muscle control. It was at this time he had to teach himself to be left handed.
He was married to Noveline WILLIAMS (daughter of Thomas J. WILLIAMS and Susie Rachel DODSON) on Jul 26 1948 in Houston, Harris County, Texas. Noveline WILLIAMS was born on Aug 27 1920 in Dumas and Emerson Road, Mississippi Township, Columbia County, Arkansas.. She died on Sep 19 2001 in Wichita, Sedgewick County, Kansas. She was buried on Sep 22 2001 in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Olathe, Kansas.
